God’s Authority In Your Mouth

“And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word” (1Kings 17: 1).

Your authority as a child of God is simply what God does when you speak. Well, if God has not sent you, then you are on your own. A Christian therefore, must know where he stands before making declarations. The Lord Jesus Christ said to us, “Without me you can do nothing” but then we also read,

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil. 4: 13).

Furthermore, Jesus said,

“…for verily I say unto you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say unto this mountain, Remove from here to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you” (Matt. 17: 20).

The truth is that when we fail to stay close to the Lord, we cheat on ourselves and limit reach. Our highest calling is not to work for the Lord but to fellowship with Him.  The book of Mark 3: 14, 15 makes it plain:

“And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, 15And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:”

We are trying to reverse the order today but it cannot work; we want to cast out devils, then heal the sick, and preach before we fellowship with Him. Our primary calling is to fellowship with Him; it is the better part that Mary chose above Martha (Luke 10: 41)

The more we fellowship with the Lord, the more we experience love for Him, the more we find it easier to obey Him, and the more we stand fully backed up by Him. The only reason we struggle to preach the gospel of Christ or heal the sick or cast out demons is because we have no respect for fellowshipping with Him and thereby charging ourselves up. His presence on our life gets the job done without effort; just like Mary the mother of Jesus contacted God’s presence by talking to angel Gabriel, after which she visited Elizabeth. Mary only greeted and the unborn baby leapt for joy in his Elizabeth’s womb; Elizabeth also got intoxicated by the Holy Spirit and began to prophesy.

It is sanctified wisdom to find time for God, the most important person in the universe. When we keep His word, follow His order and obey Him, He lets the forces of heaven back us up:

“Casting down arguments, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6   And having a readiness to punish all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled” (2 Cor. 10: 5-6).

To have authority is to bow to God’s authority without reservation; then everything we do will be in His name. We shall be able to join Elijah and Elisha in saying, “As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be…except at my word”.
